FAQ

Common Questions

Answers to what Purchasing Managers and R&D Engineers ask most.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom prisms?
For prototyping and R&D, we accept orders from as few as 1-5 pieces. Production MOQ varies by prism type and complexity -- typically 10-50 pieces for standard geometries. We can discuss NRE waivers for high-volume commitments. Contact us with your project scope for a tailored recommendation.
Can you manufacture to ISO 10110 drawing standards?
Yes. Our engineering team is fully conversant with ISO 10110 optical drawing standards as well as MIL-PRF-13830, DIN, and ANSI formats. We can also work from informal sketches or functional descriptions if a formal drawing doesn't exist yet -- we'll generate a DXF for your approval before production.
What quality documentation is provided with each shipment?
Standard documentation includes: Certificate of Conformance (CoC), raw material certificates with refractive index and Abbe number data, interferogram reports for surface flatness and wavefront, angular measurement records from autocollimator, and coating spectrophotometry curves. Additional documentation (PPAP, FMEA, REACH/RoHS declarations) available on request.
How do you handle NDA and IP protection for proprietary designs?
We routinely sign mutual NDAs before any technical exchange. Your drawings, specifications, and application details are never shared with third parties. All design files are stored in access-controlled systems and deleted upon contract completion if requested. We are happy to provide a signed NDA before you share any sensitive information.
What is the typical lead time for production orders?
Prototypes: 7-14 business days. Small-batch production (10-100 pcs): 3-5 weeks. Volume production: 6-10 weeks depending on complexity and coating requirements. Expedite options are available. We provide a firm delivery schedule at order confirmation and proactively communicate any changes -- no surprise delays.
Do you support sapphire prisms for harsh-environment applications?
Yes. Sapphire prisms (Mohs 9, operating range -40°C to 1000°C, >85% transmission from UV to mid-IR) are one of our core competencies. We machine sapphire in both C-axis and A-axis orientations depending on your optical and mechanical requirements. Ideal for aerospace, industrial sensing, and high-power laser applications.

What our B2B clients say about working with Winson Optics

"The angular accuracy on our beamsplitter cubes was ±2 arc-seconds -- better than spec. The interferogram reports gave our QA team everything they needed. We've switched all our prism sourcing to Winson."

Michael K.
Senior Optical Engineer, Germany

"As a procurement manager, what I value most is predictability. Winson sends production photos, inspection milestones, and shipping updates without me asking. First supplier that actually reduced my workload."

Sarah L.
Procurement Manager, USA

"We needed Dove prisms with a very tight transmitted wavefront spec for a laser rotation application. Winson's engineers suggested a better glass grade and got us to λ/8 TWF -- something two other suppliers said was impossible."

Thomas R.
R&D Director, Switzerland
