Ion-Exchange Strengthening:
The Science Behind the Durability

Chemically strengthened glass undergoes a controlled ion-exchange process -- immersed in a molten potassium salt bath at ~400°C, sodium ions near the glass surface are replaced by larger potassium ions. This creates a deep compressive stress layer (DOL) that dramatically resists crack propagation.

The result: a cover glass that is 4-8× stronger than conventional annealed glass of the same thickness, while maintaining optical clarity, touch sensitivity, and the ability to be post-processed into complex geometries -- critical for medical, industrial, and smart device applications.

Engineer's Note

Unlike thermally tempered glass, chemically strengthened glass can be cut and drilled before strengthening -- enabling complex hole patterns, notches, and custom geometries without compromising the stress layer integrity.
